Having completed my CCIE -R&S in 2008 looked for some challenges…. After 4 years later decided to study for CCIE wireless. My target is to achieve this during 2013 and most probably H2-2013. In R&S I had the opportunity to go through CCNA -> CCNP -> CCIE with lots hands on through job experience. In wireless I am studying for CCIE wireless with my current work experience in Enterprise wireless network.
This makes it is a real challenge for me and looking forward to face it. There is another challenge this time around. In 2008, only my wife (really helped me alot) was with me, Now we have 2.5 year little girl and expecting a new member in this June. So time management going to be difficult.
After doing lots of research on web, realized it is challenging to find good study materials/forums to help me on my way. Therefore started this blog primarily to assist me on my journey and on the otherhand help to any one wishing to walk down the same track.
Hello,
Thank you for sharing your notes.
For the CCIE R/S, did you go to a bootcamp ? Can you explain why ?
Do you plan to attend to a wireless bootcamp ?
Funkychild
For R&S I did not go for a bootcamp. I had to self funded my CCIE-RS project & very little support got from my employer (though company was a cisco gold partner). Could not afford bootcamp cost & spent those for online rack & training material.
For wireless CCIE, it is different story, my employer is fully supporting sending me for a bootcamp in end of next month here in Sydney.
No bootcamps for R/S, two thumbs up !!!!
How many attempts for the lab ?
Got through it in my 2nd attempt…It’s doable thing & determination is the key…how about you ?
First things first, I dont ‘t even have a CCNA. Today CCIE is more a dream than an goal for me.
Keep the dream live, Even I did not thought about CCIE when I started my cisco career in 2003, but when I worked 2-3 years with cisco equipments path become clear to me.
Let time decide when you want to go for it. but keep dreaming about achieving it.. you will get it.
One advice is, try to understand fundamentals rather passing these CCNA/CCNP exams. This will be the key to even for CCIE.
My job doesn’t give me the opportunity to learn a lot of stuff. Studying on my own and maybe pass few certfications is a good mean to make sure the fundamentals are understood . Did you go straight to CCIE or did you pass CCNA and CCNP ?
” keep dreaming about achieving it.. you will get it”
“understand fundamentals ”
I’ll keep these advice in mind.
Thank you.
Hi,
CCNA R&S is per-requisite for any other certification. So you need to start with CCNA (even you can’t start CCNA-Voice, CCNA-Security, CCNA-Wireless without having CCNA-R&S). I went through CCNA,CCNP,CCDA,CCIP & then to CCIE-RS.
But when I study for CCIE-R&S, I realized I have not understood lot of fundamental topics covered in those level. So I had to learn them properly & thoroughly. In wireless CCIE, I am challenging myself to learn CCNA-CCNP wireless topics (without doing certifications) at the same time reading for CCIE wireless.
If you could achieve CCIE, that means you should have knowledge in Associate & Professional level as well.
Hi,
Soon I’m getting into the track of CCIE Wireless but I think I would need sometime and really need more time in achieving it. Currently, I am holding CCNP Wireless and really determined to proceed to the next track. Hoping that your blog would help me in enriching my knowledge and skills about Cisco wireless. Two thumbs up!! By the way, if I have anything here that would need you expert advise, I would be happy to input my comments here.
Hi Jared,
Yes feel free to drop a line if you need any advice/input from my end.
Planning is the most important for a CCIE journey & make sure you take time to plan your journey well in advance.
I am more than happy to share my knowledge & help other on this.

Hi,
Should I aim for CCIE R$S first or CCIE wireless,my work area is more towards wireless than routing and switching.
Is there any training institute in Bangalore ,India
Thank you so much
I have always been referring to this blog when in doubt ,good one
If you have interest in both track, I would suggest R&S first and then Wireless. In that way, first should help this other from study perspective.
Regarding CCIEW training, IPExpert is the only provider I know of actively working on v3.0 material.

Thank you so much for reply, that helps.
Do you have any experience with ipexpert wireless
Yes, I used their materials during my preparations (addition to Fastlane workbook )
I can recommend their product as not any other provider develop materials for v3.0 lab.
Hi,
Before start discussing i want to thank you very much for this Blog that helped me so many time, also your anwers in cisco support forum website so helpfull.
I will start the preparation to pass the CCIEW. i know that we are in V3.1, when i checked in CP i found just the staudy dco of V3.0, i don’t know if you have any idea about this, if the study guide 3.0 will be helpfull to pass the 3.1 exam ??
And i will be happy if you can give some advises in this context.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Differences between v3.0 & 3.1 is not that big (converged access is the major section removed in 3.1). So study material for v3.0 is mostly applicable for 3.1 (except converged access)
Pls refer this thread as it listed current software versions in CCIEW lab exam.
